House budget chief Rep. David Rivera, R-Miami, put language in the House budget that bans the use of any state funds to support embryonic stem cell research, and it passed.
After an emotional debate, an amendment offered by House Democratic Leader Franklin Sands, D-Weston, to salvage the possibility of state funding for embryonic stem cell research in Florida just went down.
Florida is now one of the states where unused embryos found at in-vitro fertilization clinics will be destroyed rather than used to help make people's lives better through stem cell research.
E-mail members from the Florida House of Representatives and voice your opinion about this issue. If more people pay attention, they may start to re-think their stance on important issues like stem cell research in enough time to be re-elected.
The Sunshine State does not look too bright for people in need of stem cell therapy.

I am ashamed to live in Florida. First, the legislature severely cuts education; then, it tries to change the length of time for voting which will deny working people a chance to get to the polls; then they want to drill 3 miles off our beaches; and last, but most important they deny people a chance to live normal lives through stem cell research finding cures. Throw these Republican legislators out. The state is out of synch with the rest of the country. For shame.
I know exactly how you feel! I can't believe they actually went through with this, but then again, I'm not surprised.
